Goals from Gio Moreno (2), Carlos Tevez and Mao Jianqing saw the hosts past their rivals in emphatic style, with Alex Teixeira seeing red for Jiangsu in added-time.
Moreno had given Shenhua the lead with a thumping header from a Tevez free-kick after 17 minutes, before the Argentine doubled the advantage from the spot before half-time.
Mao Jianqing turned home Fredy Guarin’s shot to make the score 3-0 with just 11 minutes remaining, but there was still time for Moreno to complete the scoring as he reacted to Tevez’s flick-on header to poke home at the back post.
Jiangsu had been forced to play one foreigner short for most of the match following the ninth minute injury of Roger Martinez and their day was made worse with Teixeira’s late dismissal with just moments left of the game.
