Shanghai SIPG blow the chance to go top again as Evergrande lose the Guangzhou derby. Watch on for more of this week’s CSL highlights.
Henan Jianye 0 – 2 Beijing Guoan
Beijing Guoan dominated the early play when Jonatan Soriano’s shot was tipped over the bar acrobatically by Wu Yan in the Henan Jianye goal.
Just before half time, Guoan took the lead through Soriano who finished off some neat football in the Henan penalty area.
In the 2nd half, Guoan got a penalty after Ba Dun was fouled in the penalty area by Henan defender Gu Cao. Soriano coolly finished off the penalty by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to double Guoan’s lead.
Guoan had further opportunities to extend their lead through Soriano, Song Boxuan and Zhang Chiming but they failed to capitalize on these opportunities in this dominant display.
Yanbian Funde FC 0-2 Tianjin Quanjian
New signing Anthony Modeste had numerous chances to put Tianjin Quanjian into the lead before he was involved in setting up Alexandre Pato. The Brazilian placed his finish past Chi Wenyi for the opening goal in the game after a neat one-two with Modeste.
In the 2nd half, Yanbian Funde started brightly and had a couple of chances to draw level before Pato doubled Quanjian’s lead after being set up with a one-two with Pei Shuai and coolly placed his finish past Chi.
Quanjian left back Chi Jinzhao was sent off following a body check on Chi Zhongguo which resulted in his 2nd yellow card in the game.
Yanbian were denied an opportunity to get back into the game after hitting the post and Bubacarr Trawally had his effort saved from point blank range by Zhang Lu in the Quanjian goal.
Quanjian managed to consolidate their position in 3rd place in the table.
Chongqing Lifan 1-2 Jiangsu Suning FC
Chongqing Lifan’s winning run came to an end thanks to Jiangsu Suning’s win.
The Nanjing side hit the post very early on in the match after some confusion in the Chongqing defence.
After receiving the ball from the left flank, Roger Martinez cut inside and placed the ball past Deng Xiaofei’s near post to give the visitors the lead.
Chongqing almost equalized after Ding Jie’s overhead kick beat the Jiangsu goalkeeper Gu Chao but not the post and Ding had another opportunity but the rebounded effort was saved by Gu.
Chongqing equalized through Nan Song after he capitalized on a mistake from Gu and hit his overhead kick into an empty net to make the score 1-1.
Just before half time, Jiangsu managed to get a penalty after Benjamin Moukandjo was bundled over in the penalty area. Moukandjo took the resulting spot kick and gave Jiangsu a 2-1 advantage going into the interval.
In the 2nd half, Roger Martinez almost added to Jiangsu’s lead but his long range effort was saved by Deng in the Chongqing goal.
Chongqing had chances to get back into the game but failed to take them due to poor finishing and desperate defending from Jiangsu.
This was Jiangsu’s 2nd win in a row and they seem to be gaining momentum under Fabio Capello’s new regime.
Guangzhou R&F 4-2 Guangzhou Evergrande
In the Guangzhou derby, Renatinho was lucky not to be sent off early on for Guangzhou R&F after he was stamped on by Gao Lin.
Ricardo Goulart went close early on for Guangzhou Evergrande but his shot was saved from point blank range by Cheng Yuelei.
R&F took the lead after Eran Zahavi’s long range shot beat Zheng Cheng, who should have done better.
Goulart almost equalized just before half time but his powerful shot went narrowly wide of goal.
In the 2nd half, Evergrande equalized after Gao Lin spotted Yu Hanchao free in the penalty area and Yu slid his finish home past Cheng to make the score 1-1.
R&F regained the lead a minute later through Renatinho who placed his finish past Zeng much to the delight of R&F coach Dragan Stojkovic.
Renatinho added his 2nd goal of the game and R&F’s third after receiving Lu Lin’s pass and beating a couple of defenders before blasting the ball past Zeng to make the score 3-1.
Zahavi almost made it 4-1 to the home side but his spectacular long range shot hit the bar before he managed to capitalize on an opportunity moments later by heading home Tang Miao’s cross to seal R&F’s victory.
Gao managed to grab a consolation goal for Evergrande with an emphatic header but R&F got a well deserved 4-2 win over their city rivals.
Shanghai Shenhua 3-2 Hebei China Fortune FC
Gervinho gave Hebei China Fortune the lead with a thunderous left footed volley beating Qiu Shengjjong for one of the goals of the season.
Hebei managed to double their lead through Dong Xuesheng after some poor defending from Shenhua.
In the 2nd half, Hebei almost made it 3-0 when Dong went close again but his shot went over the bar.
Shenhua almost scored after Yang Cheng saved Mao Jianqing’s header from point blank range.
Giovanni Moreno managed to bring Shanghai Shenhua back into the match after connecting with Cao Yunding’s cross to reduce the deficit to 2-1 on the hour mark. Ezequiel Lavezzi almost went close to restoring Hebei’s two goal advantage but he fired his shot just wide.
Moreno equalized for Shenhua after firing home from close range after holding off two defenders. A minute later Obafemi Martins managed to grab the winner for Shenhua in this enthralling comeback after placing his left footed finish past Yang to make the score 3-2 to Shenhua and maintain Hebei’s bad run of form.
Liaoning Whowin 1-0 Changchun Yatai
Liaoning captain Assani Lukimya had a header just go wide of the Changchun goal.
Odion Ighalo had a shot saved from point blank range for the visitors by Shi Xiaotan in the Liaoning goal.
In the 2nd half, Lukimya had his free kick saved by Wu Yake who then pushed the ball onto the crossbar.
Liaoning managed to get the winning goal in the 65th minute when Christian Bekamenga connected with Zhang Ye’s cross and placed the ball past Wu.
Changchun had chances to get back into the game but failed to capitalize and Liaoning got the win.
Shandong Luneng 2-1 Shanghai SIPG
Elkeson had a chance to put Shanghai SIPG in front early on but his shot went just wide.
Moments later SIPG took the lead through Wu Lei who scored after an excellent through ball from Odil Akhmedov.
Papiss Cisse almost equalized for Shandong but his effort just went wide of goal. In the 2nd half, a deflected free kick almost gifted the home side an equalizer but it hit the post.
SIPG almost caught Shandong on the break to double their lead but Elkeson’s effort was saved by Wang and Hulk had a shot saved from outside the penalty area.
Shandong managed to grab an equalizer through Jin Jingdao after he connected with Graziano Pelle’s flick on to make the score 1-1.
The home side pushed further into the ascendancy having the majority of the play before grabbing the winner through Wu Xinghan who met the rebound from Pelle’s header which struck the bar.
This defeat was another missed opportunity for SIPG to go to the top of the table – how many more chances will they have to capitalize on Evergrande’s mistakes?
