Top two both lose in weekend of odd results: CSL Week 16 round up

Tianjin Quanjian 2 – 1 Guangzhou R&F

Tianjin Quanjian opened the scoring in the 25th minute after Su Ke met Zhang Cheng’s knocked down header and calmly finished past Cheng Yuelei to give the home side the lead.

Quanjian almost doubled their lead in the 39th minute after Wang Yongpo’s diving header was saved by Cheng in the Guangzhou R&F goal. However, just before half time R&F equalised through Eran Zahavi who headed home Junior Urso’s cross with a well-placed header leaving Zhang Lu rooted on the goaline for his 14th goal of the season.

In the 2nd half, Lu Lin had a free kick that was saved by Zhang to deny the visitors the lead while Renatinho missed a sitter when he put his header wide to keep the visitors at bay.

Quanjian almost took the lead through Pei Shuai who connected with Wang’s cross but his header hit the crossbar and in the 80th minute Axel Witsel was brought down in the penalty area but the referee did not give a penalty which proved to be the right decision.

Witsel turned out to be the hero in the end and the home side grabbed the 3 points in the last minute when Witsel put his low finish coolly past Cheng after he connected with a deflected cross to keep Quanjian’s winning run going.

Yanbian Funde 0 – 4 Chongqing Dangdai Lifan

Yanbian Funde were looking to build on their win from last week while Chongqing Lifan were seeking back to back away wins.

The away side dominated the first half having numerous chances but they were kept at bay by Dong Jialin in the Yanbian goal.

In the second half Chongqing took their chances and ran riot when they took the lead through Nan Song’s speculative effort which should of being dealt better by Dong.
Yanbian went close to equalising through Bubacarr Trawally but his shot was easily saved by Deng Xiaofei.

After calamitous play in the Yanbian defence, Fernandinho took advantage when he went through on goal before being brought down in the penalty area by Dong and Chongqing were awarded a penalty which was calmly dispatched into the net by Alan Kardec to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Fernandinho had a chance to make the score 3-0 in the 82nd minute which he failed to convert before making amends a minute later after his long range left footed effort beat Dong at the near post to give the visitors an unassailable advantage.

Kardec added further to Yanbian’s woes after being put through by Fernandinho and coolly placing his finish from outside of the penalty area past Dong to make the scoreline 4-0 and maintain Chongqing’s good run of form.

Beijing Guoan 2 – 0 Guangzhou Evergrande

After meeting Yu Yang’s cross in the 1st minute, Jonatan Soriano beat a couple of defenders and placed his low left footed finish through the legs of Zeng Cheng in the Guangzhou Evergrande goal to give Beijing Guoan the lead.

Guoan almost doubled their lead after Zhang Xizhe’s long range half volley hit the crossbar.

Guoan had more clear-cut chances in the 1st half although Evergrande grew more into the game and the visitors almost equalised just before half time with substitute Zhang Long’s shot hitting the crossbar.

In the 2nd half Guoan doubled their lead after Zhang’s pass split the Evergrande defence which put Soriano through on goal. Soriano weaved his way past defenders in the penalty area before smashing his finish past Zheng to enhance Guoan’s lead in the 51st minute.

Soriano almost got his hat trick goal but his shot went high and wide for Guoan and Zhang Chiming almost made the score 3-0 but, his effort went over the bar.

Hebei CFFC 2 – 3 Henan Jianye

Henan Jianye opened the scoring in the 11th minute after some miscommunication between Ren Hang and Yang Cheng and Ren miskicked Borek Dockal’s through ball into the net to give the visitors an early lead.

Henan doubled their lead moments later when Christian Bassong was put through on goal by Hu Jinghang and Bassong coolly put his finish past Yang to give the visitors a surprise 2-0 lead at half time.

In the 2nd half Ezequiel Lavezzi had a free kick well saved by Wu Yan just after half time before Henan caught Hebei China Fortune on the break with Hu setting up Bassong for his second goal of the game with an emphatic finish to make the score 3-0 to Henan.

Hebei got a goal back after some neat play from Gervinho which Lavezzi finished off coolly putting his finish past Wu.

Henan almost restored their three goal advantage after Bassong set up Zhong Yinbao with a teasing cross but Zhong’s effort was well saved by Yang from close range.

Hebei got another goal to make the last few minutes interesting after Lavezzi capitalised on some indecision from Gu Cao in the Henan defence and hit a thunderous shot past Wu’s near post to make the score 3-2 to Henan.

Gervinho almost equalised with a close-range effort that was well saved by Wu while Henan almost grabbed a 4th goal on the counter attack but Du Changlie’s shot hit the post and the match ended 3-2 to the visitors.

Jiangsu Suning 2 – 2 Shanghai Shenhua

Jiangsu Suning opened the scoring after Wu Xi’s met Gao Tianyi’s cross with a diving header after Li Shuai in the Shanghai Shenhua goal misjudged the cross to give the home side the lead.

Jiangsu almost doubled their lead through Roger Martinez but his shot went just wide of the goal/ Shenhua almost equalised after Mao Jianqing was put through on goal by Giovanni Moreno bus his shot was well saved by Gu Chao.

In the 32nd minute Alex Teixeira was brought down by Ki- Hee Kim and Jiangsu were awarded a penalty which was dispatched by Teixeira to double the home side’s lead.

In the 2nd half, Jiangsu almost made it 3-0 after Martinez’s shot was saved by Li and Teixeira had another opportunity but his header hit the bar after connecting with Tao Yuan’s cross.

Moreno brought Shenhua back into the match after he connected with Zhu Jianrong’s header to make the score 2-1. In stoppage time Moreno got the equaliser for the visitors after Moreno met Cao Yunding’s inviting cross with a clinical header which rescued Shenhua a point in a match that looked likely to end in defeat.

Jiangsu will feel hard done by not winning but one consolation is that this point took them off the bottom of the table.

Liaoning Kaixin 0 – 1 Guizhou Zhicheng

Guizhou Zhicheng had some early efforts saved by Liaoning goalkeeper Shi Xiaotian before claiming a penalty in which Nikica Jelavic sent Shi the wrong way.

Guizhou had further chances to increase their lead but they were kept at bay by Shi.

In the 2nd half Liaoning had chances to get back into the match but failed to capitalise on them to give the visitors the victory.

Changchun Yatai 4 – 2 Shanghai SIPG

After Guangzhou Evergrande’s defeat in Beijing, Shanghai SIPG had the opportunity to claim top spot in the league – without suspended stars Wu Lei, Hulk and Oscar.

Changchun almost scored in the 5th minute when Tan Long’s connected with Szabolcs Huszti’s corner kick but his volley was easily saved by Yan Junling.

In the 20th minute Odion Ighalo was brought down in the penalty area by Odil Akhmedov and Changchun were awarded a penalty which Huszti converted to give Changchun a 1-0 lead and the start of 3 goals in a crazy 7 minutes of play.

Changchun doubled their lead 4 minutes later after Jiang Zhe capitalised on some indecisive defending from SIPG and finished from close range with a left footed finish.

The north-east side extended their lead to make the score 3-0 after Tan finished from close range after receiving Zhou Dadi’s knockdown header to make the score 3-0 which stunned SIPG who struggled to get into the match.

Changchun almost made it 4-0 with chances from Ismailov, Tan and Huszti but they failed to capitalize.

In the 2nd half, SIPG managed to get a goal back after there was some confusion in the Changchun penalty area between Zhang Xiaofei and goalkeeper Wu Yake. Both  got in each other’s way and the ball rebounded off Zhang to trickle into the net.

Changchun restored their 3-0 advantage after Ighalo took control of Huszti’s through ball before rounding Yan in the SIPG goal to make score his fourth goal of the season and make it 4-1.

Pulled a goal back after Li Shenglong finished off the rebound of a deflected shot that was saved by Wu.

Changchun came close to getting a 5th goal after Tan’s header was well saved from point blank range by Yan.

SIPG were left to rue not capitalising on Evergrande’s misfortune to go top of the table.

Tianjin Teda 0 – 2 Shandong Luneng

In the final match of the weekend Tianjin Teda took on Shandong Luneng.

In the 6th minute, Tianjin Teda’s Mbaye Diagne had his header tipped over the crossbar acrobatically by Wang Dalei after Diagne connected with Wang Dong’s free kick.

Both sides had chances to score during the 1st half before Shandong Luneng took the lead through Jin Jingdao who finished tidily with a left footed finish off the post for his 1st goal of the season.

In the 2nd half Li Yuanyi had a shot which went just wide of goal for Teda.

Shandong almost doubled their lead when a header from Teda defender Cao Yang hit his own crossbar and Diego Tardelli had a shot go just wide in the 73rd Minute.

Moments later, Tardelli scored Shandong’s second goal of the match with some excellent ball control in the penalty area to fool the Teda defence before wrong footing the goalkeeper to place his finish and get his 10th goal of the season.

The victory for Shandong keeps them in contention in the race for 3rd place with Hebei China Fortune and Tianjin Quanjian.
