AVB Rants as SIPG Win Big: The Chinese Football Podcast

Shanghai International Port Group and their emotional manager are at the center of a drama-packed week for Chinese football – the pod looks back at last week’s dramatic AFC Champions League quarter-final and discuss what this means for Chinese sides’ prospects in continental competition this year and next. The panel also pick over the carcass of Shenhua following a derby humiliation, and debate Gregorio Manzano’s legacy once again.

We look forward to some crunch fixtures at the top and bottom of the table in Round 26, and also take in some listeners’ questions ranging from Tibet’s first professional football side to stadium construction and Wu Lei’s sliding-doors Copenhagen moment.

Wild East Football’s Steve Crooks is the host, joined by our regular experts Brandon Chemers in Beijing, Cameron Wilson in Shanghai.

Steve hosts the Chinese Football Podcast, having joined the WEF team as correspondent for Shanghai Shenhua, the side he has followed since moving to Shanghai in 2010. Exiled from the Victorian town-centre idyll of Feethams along with his childhood football team, Steve spent many an (un)happy year on Hongkou's North Terrace along with the Shenhua Element Crew and Blue Devils before relocating to Sydney from where he continues to follow the Chinese game from afar.
