Title Run-in, German Referees, and China’s Greatest Derbies: The Chinese Football Podcast

The CSL is back after the international break, and the pod assess the run-in for title contenders Guangzhou Evergrande and Shanghai International Port Group FC. With an AFC Champions League semi-final and CFA Cup Final to come, what are SIPG’s chances of their first-ever top-tier silverware?

The panel discuss peripatetic Beijing Renhe’s promotion and next year’s city derby with Guoan, along with other big rivalries in the domestic club game, and the legacy issues from clubs city-hopping in the past.

There’s also time for a return to the old pod favourite of the CFA’s disciplinary bingo – how badly have the suspensions blighted the league’s reputation, and what do the experts make of the decision to parachute in a German referee for some end-of-season dead-rubber fixtures?

Wild East Football’s Steve Crooks is the host, joined by our regular experts Brandon Chemers in Beijing, Cameron Wilson in Shanghai.

Steve hosts the Chinese Football Podcast, having joined the WEF team as correspondent for Shanghai Shenhua, the side he has followed since moving to Shanghai in 2010. Exiled from the Victorian town-centre idyll of Feethams along with his childhood football team, Steve spent many an (un)happy year on Hongkou's North Terrace along with the Shenhua Element Crew and Blue Devils before relocating to Sydney from where he continues to follow the Chinese game from afar.
